Case Study: How a Casablanca Restaurant Went From 195 Followers to 3.37 Million Views

Case Study: How a Casablanca Restaurant Went From 195 Followers to 3.37 Million Views

In eight months, a family restaurant in Maarif, Casablanca, went from about 195 Facebook followers to 7,155, passed 3.37 million Facebook views and generated 977 direct customer actions on Google, on a total advertising spend of roughly 3,111 MAD. This is how KIO did it, and the lessons any restaurant can take from it.

Where the restaurant started

When we began working with Mahfoud Maarif in early 2026, it had a Facebook page with about 195 followers, no website, no content strategy and a Google listing nobody had claimed. Like many good restaurants, the food was doing the work and the online presence was not.

The results after eight months

  • 3.37 million Facebook views across 75 posts.
  • 195 to 7,155 Facebook followers, a growth of 3,569%.
  • 9,463 Instagram followers and 284,500 TikTok views.
  • 17,526 Google Business Profile views and 977 direct customer actions: direction requests, calls, menu views and website clicks.
  • 9,450 hours of total watch time.
  • Advertising spend of about 3,111 MAD across all channels, under one dirham per thousand views.

Most of these results were organic. The ad budget was far too small to explain them.

The moment it turned: one video, 3.15 million views

In late March we changed the content strategy and rebalanced the calendar toward short vertical video. A few weeks later, one reel passed 3,154,045 views and reached about 1.74 million people. 99.5% of that reach came from people who did not follow the page, and that single video brought in 4,660 new follows. That is discovery: new people finding the restaurant, not the same audience seeing the same post twice.

Lesson one: reels produced 99.8% of the reach

Across 75 Facebook posts, 41 reels generated 3,361,290 views. The 31 photo posts generated 5,714. The effort per post was similar, and the difference was roughly six hundred to one.

Many restaurants are still sold a “posts per month” package built mostly on photos. On this account, that kind of package would have bought about 0.17% of the result. If you run a restaurant in Morocco and your content is mostly photos, the format is likely the problem, not the food.

Lesson two: 48% of TikTok traffic came from search

On most TikTok accounts, the For You feed brings most of the traffic. Here, the largest single source was search: 48% of traffic came from people typing the restaurant’s name on purpose. Reach can be bought. Someone searching for you by name cannot. That is brand recall, and it is the most durable thing this work produced.

From views to visits: what happened on Google

Views only matter if they turn into customers. The Google Business Profile is the closest measurable sign of people actually coming in. Between April and August, monthly customer actions grew from 125 to 290, for a total of 977, including 473 direction requests and 309 phone calls.

The top search term that showed the restaurant was the generic word “restaurants”, 5,531 times. Those people were not looking for Mahfoud. They were looking for somewhere to eat, and found it. That is new-customer acquisition.

What KIO delivered

  • Social media management on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok: strategy, content calendar, community management and small ad campaigns.
  • Video production: on-site filming, editing, subtitles, graphics and audio selection.
  • Google Business Profile: creation and optimisation of three listings, photos, hours, menu, categories and review replies.
  • Website: WordPress design and build with hosting, content and a reservation page.
  • Digital loyalty system: a QR loyalty card with a merchant dashboard and staff accounts.

What any restaurant can take from this

  1. Make short vertical video the default, not an extra. Photos keep your page looking alive. Video brings new people.
  2. Claim and maintain your Google Business Profile. It is where views turn into calls and directions.
  3. Watch search, not only reach. When people start searching your name, your brand is working.
  4. Spend on ads last. Here, almost everything came from content people chose to watch and share.

About 3,111 MAD across all channels over eight months. Most of the reach was organic.
